SAVI and the Central Park JoggerFourteen years ago, we learned about the worst of human nature. We learned about pain, cruelty and violence. When Trisha Meili was brutally attacked, raped, and beaten almost to death, New York and most of the country took it personally. We cried for her and we prayed for her. We needed her to survive, to reclaim her life. Now, 14 years later, Trisha is introducing us to the very best of humanity. She is teaching us what is possible with faith and with courage. Trisha’s voice is now a ray of light to many who have suffered. As we listen to the Central Park Jogger’s voice for the first time, firm and resolute, a true Phoenix, risen from the flames, let us all remember our commitment to this cause. Let us, once again, take up the mantle of our fight, let us reach out to someone who needs our help, and let us continue to educate our children. We can make a difference—we do make a difference. Read “The Miraculous Reality of Healing,” an essay written by Trisha in 1999 for the Spring edition of the SAVI Advocate Newsletter. Visit Trisha’s Web site www.centralparkjogger.org, and read more about this amazing and inspiring woman. On May 8, 2003, join the hundreds of people who will come out to show their support for Trisha at the SAVI Silver Whistle Award Dinner, at the Puck Building in New York City. We at SAVI will honor her for her strength, for the milestones we’ve watched her reach over the last 14 years and for the hope she is infusing in others. Seating is extremely limited, so please make your reservation soon by calling the SAVI Benefit office at (212) 249-6188 or e-mailing SAVIBenefit@hotmail.com. |
