Multidisciplinary Training Area
in
Biophysics, Structural Biology and Biomathematics
The
Center for Biomathematical Sciences at Mount Sinai offers a course
of Ph.D. training under the auspices of the Graduate
School of Biological Sciences, the Multidisciplinary Training Area
in Biophysics, Structural Biology and Biomathematics (BSBB). The goal
of
this training
program
is to prepare
students for careers in teaching and research in
various areas of the biological sciences where computers and mathematics
have become essential tools.
The research interests of
our faculty and students are indicative of the broad range of fields
that are appropriate subjects for biomathematics. Recent dissertation
research topics have included gastric electrochemistry, ocular neurophysiology,
theoretical analysis of intracellular calcium oscillations, and protein
folding pathways prediction. Currently registered students are working
on projects in areas such as mathematical immunology, computer automation
of microscopic diagnostic techniques, new methods to analyze structural
transitions in DNA, and other macromolecular problems.
