How We Help
What is the CAPP Caregiver Resource Center all about?

Inez, a mother of two school-age children, has been caring for her elderly father for 5 years. She feels tired and overwhelmed by her father's needs.

When Inez called the CAPP Caregiver Resource Center, she spoke with a social worker who listened. Her father is now attending a day program three afternoons a week. He enjoys the program, and Inez gains some free time. Inez also joined a support group for caregivers where she's able to express her feelings, share ideas for coping, and get the understanding she needs.

Rose has been caring for her husband since he had a stroke 8 years ago. She hasn't been to a doctor in years. Although she is having more trouble bathing and dressing her husband, she feels uncomfortable about letting someone else do this. Now Rose's son is worried about his mother's health.

When Rose and her son spoke to a social worker at the Caregiver Resource Center, she helped them locate a neighborhood agency that worked with the family on a care plan. Rose hired an experienced home attendant who helps with her husband's care. Rose is also regularly seeing a doctor in her neighborhood.

When Jerry learned that his 30-year-old daughter had cancer, he was determined to care for her at home. He called the Caregiver Resource Center about services for his daughter. When the social worker from the Resource Center called him the next week, Jerry felt he needed to know more about his daughter's illness. He is now in a program for family members of people with cancer. Jerry is getting valuable information on his daughter's illness and is in a better position to make long-term plans for her care.

Inez, Rose and Jerry all called CAPP's Caregiver Resource Center and spoke with a social worker who answered their questions, referred them to vital resources and provided support at a time when they needed it most.
