Located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, Madison East is the premier treatment center for individuals who are seeking meaningful recovery from psychiatric and co-occurring disorders in a comfortable, confidential environment. Operated by The Mount Sinai Medical Center, Madison East offers world-class care along with a wide range of amenities for people with psychiatric conditions, including substance use, mood disorders and dementia.

The staff and facilities of Madison East offer a confidential and secure atmosphere that facilitates treatment for those who desire a low-profile setting.

Patients come to Madison East to receive expert, personalized treatment for issues ranging from psychological and/or medical stabilization to rehabilitation treatment and recovery. The vast resources of The Mount Sinai Hospital are available to individuals being treated at Madison East. Consultations in all medical specialties can be arranged as needed.

At Madison East, our talented, multi-disciplinary team of psychiatrists, social workers, nurses, nutritionists, and credentialed alcohol and substance abuse counselors provide each patient with individual attention and tailored treatment options in a comfortable and confidential environment.

Team members are experienced in the evaluation and treatment of the full range of mood disorders, dementias, eating disorders, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, and the medical complications related to substance use.

Treatment
At Madison East, we understand that each patient has a unique background, as well as his or her own needs and concerns. Our team will coordinate with the patient’s healthcare providers to provide continuity of care, both before and after treatment at Madison East. Our high staff-to-patient ratio allows for individualized assessment and treatment planning, which includes:

• Ensuring that patients are medically stabilized

•Conducting comprehensive psychological, psychiatric, and chemical dependency diagnostic evaluations

• Consulting with specialists in neurology, brain imaging, internal medicine, and neuropsychology, as needed

• Assisting with transitions to providers and family to ensure continuity of care

• Providing therapy for individuals, groups, and families

Optional Services
In order to enhance our patients’ recovery, we offer several optional services:

• Smoking cessation programs

• Relapse prevention assistance

• Acupuncture treatment

• Complementary therapies, including stress reduction and professional trainers who provide various types of exercise, counseling, and classes

• Nutritional consultations

Amenities
Madison East offers an environment that is comfortable, convenient, and confidential. Our six private patient rooms are tastefully furnished and feature premium bed linens and luxurious robes. Each room has a full private bath.

Our separate dining room features gourmet meals served three times daily, prepared by our culinary trained chef, who holds a masters degree in nutrition.

A common area allows for privacy when family and friends visit. Among our other amenities are cable television in each room, with video rental available. Concierge service is offered seven days a week to arrange amenities such as massages, personal training sessions, yoga instruction, hairstyling, manicures and pedicures, and acupuncture upon medical clearance. Patients may use cell phones and have Internet access with clearance from their physicians. We offer wireless Internet service for our patients who wish to stay connected to their family, friends, and career during their stay.

Staff and Leadership
Richard Lewis, M.D.
A recipient of Mount Sinai Hospital’s Physician of the Year and Outstanding Resident awards, Dr. Lewis is an accomplished clinician and teacher whose clinical interests and expertise include psychopharmacology, electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), treatment-resistant mood disorders, psychotic disorders, and addiction. Dr. Lewis has extensive experience and certification in the use of Buprenorphine for the treatment of opiate dependence and the administration of ECT. He is an assistant professor of Psychiatry at Mount Sinai School of Medicine.

Mount Sinai is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and licensed by the New York State Department of Health and Office of Mental Health.
