Nasal and Sinus Surgery

DEFINITION: Mount Sinai's renowned rhinologists treat the full range of inflammatory diseases of the nose and paranasal sinuses. Treatment is offered for benign and malignant tumors of this area. Our specialists offer medical management of sinus disease and also perform traditional and endoscopic sinus surgery.

TREATMENTS The development of endoscopic sinus surgery has enabled surgeons to visualize the sinus openings, remove diseased tissue, and make the natural sinus openings larger directly, all by working through the nostrils. With the addition of techniques or image guided surgery, rarely is it necessary to make an incision on the face or in the upper gum to gain access to the diseased sinus.

BENEFITS There are dramatic benefits to Minimally Invasive Surgery. The smaller incision minimizes tissue damage allowing for a shorter hospital stay and faster recovery time. Patients also enjoy reduced post-operative pain and less scarring than open surgery.
