Welcome from DirectorValuing Diversity Welcome to the Mount Sinai School of Medicine Center for Multicultural and Community Affairs Web site. This site includes information regarding Center programs, initiatives, and events that serve to support development of careers in health professions as well as resources for students, faculty, and other professionals interested in data and information relating to the health of diverse racial ethnic populations. As nationally recognized Center, it provides centrally coordinated support and programming at every level from high school and collegiate programs to medical school, residency and faculty development. The mission of CMCA is to eliminate health disparities through a nationally recognized center structure using innovative, integrative, and coordinated approaches in the areas of community, patient care, education, and research; to improve the health of all populations by diversifying the health care workforce; and by impacting health policy and research. The Center builds on the Office for Multicultural and Community Affairs, established in 1998 to support diversity in Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Our efforts have helped Mount Sinai maintain a level of diversity in its student body that few medical schools locally or nationally can match, as well as support an environment that embraces diversity. As a formal center within the School of Medicine we are positioned to expand institution-wide diversity initiatives, education, and training substantially and to improve professional competencies for cross-cultural health care service delivery and minority health outcomes research. We hope you find this site a valuable resource. Thank you for your interest.
