National Cancer Institute, Special Populations Networks
for Cancer Awareness and Research Training Award

In collaboration with the Department of Oncological Sciences and with the support of a five-year NCI grant, the East Harlem Partnership for Cancer Awareness has been formed. The principal aim of this program is to build on the unique individual and collective strengths of an existing East Harlem community health partnership to develop educational strategies that reduce barriers to cancer screening for minority and other disadvantaged populations. The program focuses on five cancer sites: breast, prostate, cervical, colorectal, and lung. The program will serve as a platform to develop focused strategies and interventions to increase cancer screening, early detection, and disease management among underserved populations and to increase participation in cancer research by minority investigators.
