Goal

To acknowledge the commitment of service, education, and research conducted by clinical and research faculty and medical students of MSSM, and among our partner and affiliate institutions to improve the physical and social health of East Harlem and other communities, and of special population groups that use the Medical Center, our East Harlem partners, and affiliate institutions.

Fifth Annual Community Health Week
April 7-12, 2008

Background

In April 2004, CMCA launched its inaugural symposium which includes a week-long poster session exhibition. Originally conceptualized as a week-long celebration, a key event was a symposium. The objectives of the symposium were to gain a new perspective of the role of the academic medical center on community health through service, education, and research; and to illustrate the wealth of activities and initiatives that students, faculty, and staff at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and Hospital are engaged in around service, education, and research to impact community health.

Poster Session Exhibition

In previous years a poster session was conducted. The poster session provides an opportunity to learn about innovative community health service, education, and research in progress at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Topics of interest include: community service and volunteer projects working with underserved, culturally diverse, under- or uninsured, disadvantaged, and or hard-to-reach populations; advocacy and information-based programs and awareness campaigns focusing on community health, health outcomes disparities, underserved populations, and health policy issues; pipeline mentoring projects and programs; community-oriented and/or community-based health services research projects.
