Irwin Gelernt, M.D., Scholarship for
Disadvantaged Students
his
merit-based scholarship complements the Mount Sinai School of Medicine's commitment
to multicultural diversity and to ensuring the qualityhighest-quality
medical care for all its neighbors. The scholarship is awarded to an MSSM student
who is both a member of an underrepresented group, and who has demonstrated
dedication to leadership, advocacy, and service within his/her community. The
student will
have opportunities to: become involved in Mount Sinai's community; act as
a role model and mentor to the neighborhood's young people; and, ideally, he/she
will consider practicing medicine in the neighborhood after graduation. In
this way, members of our community will benefit from the presence of a physician
who
has developed a connection with them and understands their needs.
