Irving J. Selikoff Scholarship

The Mount Sinai School of Medicine offers scholarship awards to scientists and physicians working in Mexico, Chile or Brazil. The scholarship supports the conduct of environmental and occupational medicine research that enhances the clinical and basic research capacity in the Latin American country. The scholarship award includes:

  • Mentorship by a Mount Sinai School of Medicine faculty member who guides scholar through the course of the study
  • Three, all expenses paid, one-month visits to New York City, where scholars work with their Mount Sinai mentors on developing the research project, data analysis and publication of results
  • US $10,000 in funds for research expenses in the home country
  • Travel funds are awarded for scholars to present research results in international conferences
  • Assistance and funds for publication of research results in international journals

Eligibility

Applicants are required to meet the following criteria:

  1. Master or Doctoral training in environmental, occupational health sciences or a related field
  2. Minimum of one year of experience in environmental and/or occupational health
  3. Have demonstrated institutional support for participation in the fellowship, including time allotted to complete the research project
  4. Have thorough knowledge of the English language
  5. Have a commitment to serving as faculty in future courses in the home country
  6. Submit a high quality, feasible research project plan to be conducted during the scholarship
