About the ProgramDescriptionThe Mount Sinai International Exchange Program for Minority Students is a unique exchange program that allows Orientation WeekInterns selected for the Exchange Program travel to Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City to participate in an intensive one-week orientation that emphasizes the role that minority professionals can play in addressing health disparities. Orientation modules also address concepts in the ethical conduct of research and cultural competency. Travel AbroadAfter completing the orientation week, interns travel to their host country in dyads (two students per country) to begin their research and international experience. This unique exchange program allows interns to remain in their host country for three months and provides travel and housing expenses as well as a stipend. The Program Director and Coordinator provide all the support necessary to ensure that the intern-mentor fit is beneficial to all parts and that interns are adjusting well to their new environment. Interns are required to dedicate a minimum of 10 consecutive weeks to the program. Interns must also submit a report on their research in the form of a scientific paper. The two most outstanding papers are chosen for presentation at an international conference. Both intern and mentor are funded to present their work. Interns and mentors are also asked to fill out an evaluation of the program and the intern or mentor, respectively.
