Stephen M. Levin, M.D., Gwen Skloot, M.D., Alvin Teirstein, M.D.

Goals

The goals of this study are to:

  1. determine the prevalence of persistent upper and lower airway disorders/dysfunction and the rate of persistent psychological distress among ironworkers who were present at “Ground Zero” of the World Trade Center disaster site during the first several days after the attack, contrasted with the prevalence of these conditions among ironworkers who never volunteered or worked at the site; and
  2. evaluate associations between the detected clinical abnormalities and environmental exposures at Ground Zero.
