Clinical Services
Center staff provide the following services:
- Medical evaluation of groups or individuals with hazardous exposures.
- Assistance for your union or co-workers in evaluating your workplace and suggesting ways of eliminating dangerous conditions.
- Written information about specific hazards you face at work.
- Advice on how to reduce or eliminate work conditions that are causing problems.
- Educational programs for unions and workers on workplace health issues.
- Help in getting worker compensation and other available legal benefits.
- Social work services to help with the social, psychological, and financial problems caused by work-related health problems.
- Epidemiologic services.
Many medical conditions may be related to your work.
- Do your wrists, hands or arms ache or feel numb, especially at night?
- Do you work with asbestos, solvents, lead or other dangerous materials?
- Do you develop difficulty breathing when on the job?
- Are any of your co-workers feeling similar symptoms?
- Are you concerned that substances you work with could affect you or your family's health?
- Is your work repetitive or does it involve tasks done in awkward positions?
If you answered YES to any of these questions, WE CAN HELP.
Mount Sinai - Irving J. Selikoff Center for Occupational and Environmental Medicine provides confidential medical evaluations for workers who want
to know if their health problems may be related to conditions at their
job. An evaluation at the Center includes:
- A review of your past and present medical history.
- A thorough physical examination.
- A complete review of your current and past jobs and exposures
What does a visit to the Center cost?
- No one will be turned away because of an inability to pay.
- You may be eligible for Workers’ Compensation.
- We will bill them directly, if your doctor feels you have a work-related condition.
- Your health insurance may cover the costs of the examination if you are not eligible for Workers' Compensation.
- We have a sliding scale for charges not covered by insurance.

A.M. and 5:00 P.M. A Center staffperson will interview you briefly over
the telephone about your health concerns. If we don’t believe we can be
of help to you, we will refer you to someone who can. Appointments are
scheduled Monday – Thursday from 9:00 A.M. – 2:30 P.M.
