The River Project

The River Project is a marine science field station located at Pier 26, on Manhattan's lower west side. The River Project (TRP), founded in 1986, is dedicated to protection and restoration of the Hudson River ecosystem through scientific research and environmental education. TRP has also established an experimental facility at Pier 26 to help restore an ecologically stressed habitat along the Manhattan shoreline.

Project TRUCE, Harlem Children's Zone

The Renaissance University for Community Education (formerly The Rheedlen University for Community Education), or TRUCE, a comprehensive youth development program for adolescents between the ages of 12-19, fosters academic growth and career readiness through the innovative use of the arts, media literacy, health and multimedia technology. Through a variety of hands-on, youth-directed projects, young people participate in creating an award-winning cable TV program ("The Real Deal") that features poetry, video dramas, and documentaries; creating community murals and gardens; publishing a quarterly newspaper (Harlem Overheard); and receiving academic support with an intensive college preparatory approach (The Insight Center).

Green Girls, City Parks Foundation

Green Girls is an innovative enrichment program developed by City Parks Foundation and the East Harlem Campus of the Young Women's Leadership Academy, the first public all-girls school in New York City.

Green Girls draws upon the resources of surrounding neighborhoods, parkland, and cultural institutions, taking advantage of all New York City has to offer. The program embodies a holistic approach, honing leadership and other life skills while exposing participants to environmental justice and stewardship issues. Through this unique after school program, participants grow and develop personally while gaining a real appreciation of the natural environment.
