Major items of laboratory equipment include:
Computer facilitiesThe XRF laboratories have several desktop and notebook computers, a flat-bed scanner and a color printer. There are several microcomputers with software capable of controlling the K XRF measurement systems, transferring the data from the Multi-Channel Analyzer of the K XRF systems and performing analyses of the spectra collected. Data are stored and secured on the XRF group's primary domain controllers in a RAID (5) with daily digital backup. Access to both general and data areas of the server is restricted by passwords and administration rights. There is no guest access. The domain is administered by Dr. Todd. The XRF web site is hosted on Mount Sinai servers. Statistical analysis is performed with programs written in-house and with
licensed versions of statistical analysis programs (for which Mount Sinai levies an annual fee). Laboratory SpaceThe XRF Laboratories in the Department of Community Medicine of The Mount Sinai Medical Center are housed in two adjoining rooms occupying a total of approximately 800 square feet. An additional 140 square feet of office/laboratory space is also available.
