The Mount Sinai Pulmonary Hypertension Program
Support Group
ell over 50 people recently attended the first support group meeting of The
Mount Sinai Pulmonary Hypertension Program held in the East Building Seminar
Room on April 8, 2000. This is the only Primary Pulmonary Hypertension (PPH)
support group meeting in New York City. Primary Pulmonary Hypertension patients
and their families, some of whom traveled as far as 3 hours away to attend
the meeting, attended the first meeting.

Dr. Valentin Fuster, Director of the Zena and Michael A. Weiner Cardiovascular Institute and co-director of the Mount Sinai Pulmonary Hypertension Program, gave an introduction and voiced his complete support of the program. Following Dr. Fuster's introduction, Dr. Michael Poon, Director of the program, delivered a 45 minute presentation on the state-of-the-art understanding and management of PPH. The talk was very well received and raised numerous interesting questions during and following the presentation. Ms. Dana Chais, a nutritional consultant, was invited to present the management of various nutritional problems associated with PPH.
The audience was very enthusiastic about the presentations. They found the discussions very informative and interesting. They are all interested in coming to future support group meetings.
Future meetings will be held on a bi-monthly basis. For information about the Mount Sinai Pulmonary Hypertension Program and future support group meetings, please call Ann Marie McDonald, RN at (212) 241-1671.
