Health Insurance

Mount Sinai provides health coverage for house officers through the Mount Sinai-Oxford Health Plan. There is also a choice of health coverage through several other HMOs. If you participate in the Mount Sinai Health Plan, there are professional discounts that apply to deductibles, co-insurance, and standard (non-maternity) private room charges when services are rendered at The Mount Sinai Hospital. Routine nursery and obstetric care are provided at no cost to the house officer. There is cost sharing if family coverage is desired. More detailed information regarding all plans is available at the Benefits Office.

Mount Sinai offers, at no cost, basic dental coverage, a prescription drug plan, and a vision plan to the house officer. There are enhanced dental plans and family coverage available with a cost-sharing deductible.

In addition to the benefits described above, our house officers are entitled to short- and long-term disability, workers' compensation, life insurance, and accidental death and dismemberment insurance. Dependent care and tax-sheltered annuity plans are also available.

Malpractice Insurance

You will be covered by Mount Sinai at no cost to you.

Vacation

Residents will have four weeks of vacation each year.

Educational Expenses

Each resident will receive a $500 in academic funding to be used at any time during the residency for attendance at scientific conferences or for educational materials.

Annual Salary

PGY-1 - $40,600
PGY-2 - $42,800
Chief Residents receive an additional $1,500 per annum as of January 1, 2001

Recreation

New York City is one of the most exciting cities in the world. The City offersan extraordinary array of artistic, athletic, cultural, and intellectual activities and events. The Mount Sinai Recreation Office is available to assist you in obtaining free and discounted tickets for theater, sports, and other events. A wide range of recreational activities and services are also offered by the Recreation Office. Discounted membership at a nearby health and fitness center with extensive facilities is available to all residents.

Housing

Mount Sinai owns several conveniently located buildings with partially subsidized apartments for the use of house officers and their families. A hospital housing bureau is available to aid house officers in finding a suitable residence.

Transportation

Mount Sinai operates a free shuttle bus throughout the day between the two training sites.
