Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Rotation
The General Practice resident spends one month with our oral and maxillofacial surgery staff evaluating and treating inpatients and outpatients in the clinic and in the operating rooms. Procedures include dentoalveolar, preprosthetic, trauma, TMJ, orthognathic, implant, and reconstructive surgery and treatment of infections. Residents make daily inpatient rounds.
Specialty Dentistry Rotation
This rotation encompasses several disciplines including: Maxillofacial Prosthetics and Implantology, Pediatric Dental Rehabilitation under General Anesthesia, Dental Anesthesia, Dental Phobia, TMJ, and Facial Pain Treatment. Residents will participate actively in these specialty areas, treating patients in the clinic and operating room settings.
Anesthesia Rotation
The General Practice resident spends one month in the operating room and prepares patients for anesthesia, utilizes monitoring equipment, and participates in venipuncture, intubations, and airway management. Intravenous sedation and general anesthesia are emphasized.
Emergency Room
The General Practice resident will participate in the evaluation and/or management of medical and surgical emergencies and treat and/or admit patients with significant infections, head & neck oral pathology, and maxillofacial trauma.
Program Goal
By the end of the year, the resident will be well-prepared to practice all phases of general dentistry and handle medical and dental emergencies. Our General Practice Residency Program provides a comprehensive background for the dentist planning to enter private practice, hospital dentistry, or one of the specialties.
