Program Overview

The goals of the Fellowship Program in Infectious Diseases at Mount Sinai are to provide comprehensive training in the principles and practice of infectious diseases and to prepare our fellows for careers in clinical infectious diseases as well as clinical investigation and/or basic science research. The mandatory two-year program offers diverse training in unique practice settings that will expose fellows to a broad range of topics and career options in infectious diseases and microbiology. The primary teaching site of the program is The Mount Sinai Hospital, a tertiary care teaching hospital in Manhattan with large inpatient and ambulatory care services. A substantial component of the training also occurs at Elmhurst Hospital Center, a city hospital in Queens, New York, that provides both inpatient and ambulatory care for the most internationally diverse community in the United States. Diverse inpatient and outpatient clinical experiences are complemented by a variety of weekly conferences and a comprehensive lecture series. Experts from within The Mount Sinai Medical Center as well as internationally recognized invited speakers cover topics within infectious diseases and related fields including microbiology, immunology, pharmacology, and epidemiology.

We believe that our unique balance of comprehensive clinical experiences, flexible research opportunities, and diverse faculty expertise provides our fellows with the necessary training to pursue the broad range of practice opportunities within our subspecialty as well as providing the foundation for academic career tracks in clinical and basic science investigation as well as hospital epidemiology.

Mount Sinai is internationally acclaimed for excellence in clinical care, education, and scientific research in nearly every aspect of medicine.
