The Lillian and Henry M. Stratton-Hans Popper Department of Pathology, Molecular and Cell-Based Medicine has long offered one of the world’s premier anatomic and clinical pathology training programs.
Our vision is to provide patients a better chance of cure by defining their disease and optimizing treatment, while offering a superior quality of life and preserving their dignity.
We were the first major medical center to establish a fully integrated pathology department combining the various arms of testing—anatomical, clinical, molecular/genetic, and cytological.
The strong rapport between pathology and clinical services facilitates our advances in understanding and treating disease. Many collaborative research opportunities exist intra- and interdepartmentally. Specimens that most departments may come across only once every five years or more are seen on a monthly basis here.
We strive to integrate what we learn through our clinical laboratory services, cytology, surgical, and molecular pathology to better guide patient care. This approach will improve treatment efficacy and clinical outcomes.
