Evidence-based Care, Academic Excellence
The mission of the Department of Pediatrics, established in 1878 as the first pediatric service within a hospital in New York City and one of the first in the nation, is to provide exceptional, innovative, and compassionate clinical care and community service, contribute to groundbreaking scientific discovery to improve the health of children, and educate the next generation of academic leaders in pediatrics.
The Kravis Children’s Hospital in the Mount Sinai Medical Center, and the Department of Pediatrics in the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, one of the nation’s top translational medical centers and biomedical research institutions, provides an outstanding environment for clinical care. Our faculty, staff and trainees are committed to improving the health of infants, children, adolescents and young adults.
Our reputation as a leader in clinical care is evidenced by the US News and World Report ranking of the Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital among the best children’s hospitals in the country in 2011. Specifically, in the 2011-12 edition of “America’s Best Children’s Hospitals,” Mount Sinai ranked among the top programs in pediatric gastroenterology, nephrology, diabetes and endocrinology, and pulmonology.
We look forward to continuing our long and distinguished tradition of excellence in innovative patient care, community involvement, professional education, and research across the translational spectrum.
Lisa M. Satlin, MD, is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Pediatrics. She is Associate Director of the MD/PhD Training Program and Director of the Center for Patient Oriented Research, Training, Education and Development (CePORTED).
