Our combined Pediatrics/General Psychiatry/Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Training Program, referred to as the Triple Board Program, is a five-year residency offering board eligibility in all three disciplines. Our Triple Board program began in 1986 and has become a well-established presence within the Mount Sinai Health System. Triple Board Programs are recognized by both the American Board of Pediatrics and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Doctors choose Triple Board training for a variety of reasons. This allows for a rich diversity in our residents’ interests and professional goals. The Mount Sinai Triple Board program enables you to position yourself for a career in any of the individual disciplines or one that integrates them. If you are planning a career in pediatrics, you gain experience with psychiatric illness across the lifespan and deal with complex psychosocial issues from all sides. Should you decide to go into psychiatry, you gain valuable perspective of normal development and the impact of childhood illness. If you intend to integrate these areas into a single career, you will be trained to treat complex cases in children with both psychosocial and medical needs, in inpatient, outpatient, or residential setting. Regardless of your ultimate path, Triple Board training will prepare you to be a leader in your field, equipping you with a nuanced and multidimensional understanding of child health, the skills to serve as a liaison between pediatric and mental health care providers, and the ability to integrate knowledge from multiple fields into your daily practice.

As a resident in the Triple Board program at Mount Sinai, you can tailor your curriculum to your interests. We offer a wide selection of elective rotations in both pediatrics and child psychiatry. The structure of our program strikes a good balance between integration and continuity, preparing you to navigate multiple interdisciplinary transitions throughout your training.

How to Apply
To apply, complete an application through Electronic Residency Application service (ERAS) and submit a minimum of three letters of recommendation, a copy of your medical school transcript, a Dean’s letter, and your United States Medical Licensing Examination scores.
