The Morchand Center at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai was one of the first resources of its kind to offer faculty the ability to evaluate students in a clinical setting without risk to patient care—a groundbreaking process that quickly became valued worldwide and has remained a critical component of medical education for more than fifty years.

By using the Standardized Patient methodology to train and assess students, residents, and other health care professionals, The Morchand Center promotes humanistic care. It offers an ideal platform for teaching, learning, evaluating, and providing and receiving feedback on the essential skills required to care for patients.

Our “patients” are experienced professional actors, trained to present the signs and symptoms of an illness in simulated doctor-patient encounters and to provide constructive feedback to medical learners. Actors must pass a rigorous audition process and then receive extensive training in standardized patient assessment.
