Vacation and time off

Each resident is entitled to 20 weekdays of vacation each year. During the first three years when the resident is receiving a 50 percent PGY stipend they are entitled to 10 weekdays of vacation. All vacations must be taken while on the OMS service and not during the time that the medical school is in session. The vacations must be taken in one-week blocks, with one week taken each quarter. All vacations must be approved by the Chief of service at the institution where the vacation is requested, as well as the residency program director. This applies to all rotations, including off service rotations. Vacation requests will be honored in accordance with level of training priority.

Conference Travel

The department supports resident travel to clinical and research meetings for the presentation of papers and research results of projects carried out in conjunction with faculty. In addition, the department pays for each chief resident to attend either the Annual or Midwinter AAOMS Meeting. Stipend includes lowest fare domestic coach air travel, meeting registration and per diem for expenses.
