Early Assurance Programs

The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai has created unique and rigorous pathways for students seeking early assurance of admission to medical school. These pathways encourage applicants from a range of backgrounds, including undergraduates who have declared majors beyond traditional scientific fields, through our FlexMed Program.

In addition, students must complete at least one academic year of college biology, or college chemistry, by the application deadline. We recognize that diversity is a key factor of medical excellence, and we celebrate the unique qualities these students bring to Icahn Mount Sinai.

Once accepted to FlexMed or the Institutional Partnership Program, you are free to pursue your educational plan unencumbered by the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT). Please note that students accepted to Icahn Mount Sinai are expected to adhere to all program requirements prior to entry, as detailed in the “After Acceptance Procedures” section of our Early Admissions Process.

Donald and Vera Blinken FlexMed Program

The Donald and Vera Blinken FlexMed Program at Icahn Mount Sinai allows students to join our tradition of cultivating future physicians who are self-directed learners, thrive on academic rigor and mentorship, and have a strong appreciation of translational research and social justice. FlexMed is transforming medical education by nurturing physicians who are grounded in twenty-first century science, as well as in the social context in which they will practice medicine.

Who Can Apply?

The Donald and Vera Blinken FlexMed Program is open to undergraduate sophomores in good academic standing from any major. To apply, you must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident entering your second year of college as a full-time student, working towards your first bachelor’s degree at an accredited college or university in the United States or Canada.

FlexMed draws students who concentrate in biomedical sciences, the humanities and social sciences, and computational sciences and engineering. To be eligible to apply, students must have taken either the SAT or ACT. In addition, students must complete at least one academic year of college biology, or one academic year of college chemistry, by the application deadline. Please note that Advanced Placement credit does not count toward the eligibility course requirements.

The U.S. Military Institutional Partnership Program

Through our U.S. Military Institutional Partnership Program, we offer active military members a unique pathway to medical school.

To be considered for admission, applicants must be on full-time active duty within any branch of service and hold a baccalaureate degree recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Candidates admitted into the Institutional Partnership Program are offered provisional acceptance to Icahn Mount Sinai, and then may defer their acceptance to continue their military service and meet all necessary requirements.
