Advising and Counseling
Faculty Advisors
When students enter Mount Sinai School of Medicine, they are assigned a Faculty Advisor, who provides academic, personal and career guidance from orientation through graduation. The advisors are available to provide support, information and referrals to department-specific mentors, as well as guide students through the career planning process. There are six advisors, and each advisor meets with their students as a group and individually in years 1, 2 and 3. The advisors guide fourth year students through the residency application process. Advisors are available to students on a regular basis for academic issues, course and clerkship scheduling, career planning, and need for specific resources.
In addition to the Faculty Advisors, students will have opportunities to develop close relationships with many other members of the faculty. The School of Medicine has also implemented strong support services for academic remediation, counseling, student health, and student mental health. Student Affairs also supports the Student Wellness Committee which focuses on bringing awareness and programming about self-care in medical school to students.
