Adenosine. The initial dose is 6mg given by rapid I.V. push. This can be repeated at 12mg twice if needed. This will decrease or stop AV conduction. It is often recommended to sedate patients mildly before giving this medication because it imparts a feeling of impending doom. The patient should be connected to a 12 lead EKG while the drug is bein pushed. The effects will last for only several seconds.
