Now you may properly anaesthetize the nose. Cocaine is very
effective, but strictly controlled and unavailable at this institution.
One may use a combination of lidocaine 4% and topical epi. 20 ml of 4%
mixed with .25 ml of 1:1000 topical epi, soak pledgets and apply. This
will give good vasoconstriction and anesthesia.
The nasal tampon or balloon device are effective pressure dressings. Balloons are very good, but be sure to not over fill them. Some people feel that the nasal tampons do not stop bleeding as well as traditional packing, this has not been determined clearly in the
