ENT Block Case 3

Module Author: Kevin Baumlin, MD
Web Author: Michael Bessette, MD

Situation

Carmen Garganta, a 25 y.o. female complains of a sore throat and is seen by you in the asthma room. She states that she has not had a fever but has been home from work because she was feeling ill for the last 2 days. She also complains that her voice is muffled today. The asthma room is busy and you look at her throat, you don't see much, no exudate minimal erythema and send her home, without discussing it with your attending, on Penicillin with a presumptive diagnosis of pharyngitis. You also give her the day off, which you assume is the reason for her late night visit.
