The predicted LD₅₀ for the number of honey bee stings per kg body weight is 19. Stated another way, 6 to 10 stings per pound of body weight results in a critical situation; greater than 10 stings per pound is usually fatal. This makes the assumption that the patient is not particularly allergic and does not have prior pulmonary disease.

In the case of this child, the LD₅₀ is approximately 380 stings, which is quite a considerable number.
