Answer 2:
--Initial blood tests including electrolytes and creatinine may be useful in assessing the severity of dehydration and in monitoring therapy. A CK might be helpful in diagnosing rhabdomyolysis and a PT and PTT might be helpful in excluding DIC.
--A core temperature should be monitored every five to ten minutes.
--Cooling as described in Answer 1 should be continued.
--Aggressive fluid replacement should be done with monitoring of urine output and blood pressure.
--Consider anticonvulsants for management of seizures which can occur during cooling (see Question 4).
