These are the lesions of genital herpes. The diagnosis can be confirmed by viral tissue cultures. A first episode can be treated with acyclovir 200mg 5 times daily for 7 to 10 days or until resolution. The newer agents of this class may be substituted. The safety of any of these agents in pregnancy is not well established.
