Biography and Special InterestsThe Voice Consultant to the Grabscheid Voice Center is Linda M. Carroll, M. Phil., C.C.C/S.L.P., a licensed, certified speech-language pathologist, vocologist, voice trainer and voice teacher. Ms. Carroll has extensive experience in training and analysis of both the singing and speaking voice. Ms. Carroll's special interests include injury avoidance in the speaking and singing voice, voice rehabilitation, voice assessment, and voice laboratory instrumentation. She has lectured extensively on these topics and has published numerous articles on voice function in peer review journals throughout the U.S., has contributed chapters to major textbooks on voice and voice care, and was featured on the PBS special "Backstage/Lincoln Center: Pavarotti Plus!" She has been a regular presenter at the Voice Foundation Symposia on Care of the Professional Voice, as well as presented at the Pacific Voice Conference, the Canadian Voice Care Foundation, the Acoustical Society of American, the New York Speech, Language and Hearing Association, The National Association of Teachers of Singing, and the American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery. A former Miss America contestant, and an experienced performer in opera, oratorio, and recital, Ms. Carroll delivers care to the voice based upon her own unique perspective as a prominent member of the voice community. Ms. Carroll is completing her Ph.D. in the Department of Biobehavioral Sciences at Columbia University, where she is the recipient of the Carol N. Wilder fellowship. Prior training includes Master of Philosophy and Master of Science at Columbia University and Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Science at the University of Maine. She currently teaches at the Actors Studio Drama School at the New School, Pace University, and Columbia University. Ms. Carroll has also been on the graduate faculty at the University of Iowa Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology and the University of Maine.
