COMMITTEE OF THE EXECUTIVE FACULTY

  1. Committee On Faculty Appointments And Promotions

    1. Composition

      This committee will consist of a chairperson, vice-chairperson and eighteen to twenty other faculty members all of whom hold the rank of Professor. The membership of this committee will be representative of the basic science faculty, full-time clinical science faculty and part-time/voluntary faculty.

    2. Appointments:

      The chairperson and all members of this committee will be recommended by the Dean and appointed by the Executive Faculty, each for a term of five years. Six to eight additional faculty, all of whom hold the rank of Professor, will be recommended by the Dean and appointed by the Executive Faculty to serve as alternates. The alternates will only attend meetings of this committee and serve as voting members upon the request of the chairperson. The chairperson may request the service of an alternate when a regular member indicates, at least one week prior to a designated meeting date, that he/she will be unable to attend the scheduled meeting. In the event that a regular member fails to attend sixty percent of scheduled meetings in any year, the chairperson should request that the absent member be replaced.

    3. Charge to Committee on Appointments and Promotions:

      1. To critically evaluate all recommendations for appointments and reappointments to the faculty of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and all promotions of faculty members of the School of Medicine that require committee action.
      2. To establish ad hoc committees to assist in the evaluation of all appointments and promotions to the rank of Associate Professor with tenure and all appointments and promotions to the rank of Professor.
      3. To recommend, to the Executive Faculty, endorsement or non-endorsement of all appointments, reappointments and promotions of faculty members of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine that require committee action.
      4. To critically evaluate all recommendations submitted by Department chairperson for reduction in rank of part-time/voluntary faculty.
      5. To recommend to the Executive Faculty endorsement or non-endorsement of a reduction in rank of part-time/voluntary faculty.
      6. To record all faculty appointments, reappointments and promotions that do not require committee action.
      7. To recommend, to the Executive Faculty, endorsement or non-endorsement of all faculty members without doctoral degrees for any appointment, reappointment or promotion to ranks other than Teaching Assistant or Research Assistant.
