Chapter III: Organization and Governance
DEPARTMENTAL GOVERNANCE
The Chairpersons and Center Directors, appointed by the
Board of Trustees, are responsible to the Dean. The Chairpersons
and Center Directors are responsible for the administration
of various departmental functions, including recommendations
for appointment and promotion, academic affairs, teaching
assignments, space allocation within the Department or Center
and administration of the Departmental or Center budget. Specific
governance for each Department and Center will depend upon
the requirements of the individual Departments and Centers
and guidelines established by each Department Chairperson
and Center Director. Each Department and Center, however,
must establish a procedure to deal with issues of professional
conduct, credentials, appointments, promotions, quality assurance
(for clinical departments), and faculty grievances. The procedures
should be submitted in writing to the Dean and distributed
to the faculty within each Department and Center.
