Disclosure of Research Results to the Media

Biomedical researchers must strive to ensure that results disclosed to the press or otherwise publicized are described accurately and that no misunderstanding arises from the description of scientific results in lay language. Information should be presented in a form that precludes unrealistic and overly optimistic interpretations of a scientific breakthrough.

Mount Sinai School of Medicine faculty members should not independently contact the news media and should refer calls from the press to the Department of Public Affairs and Marketing which will evaluate the inquiry and act as a liaison between researchers and the media.
