The Ellen Parker Memorial Award For Outstanding Community Service in Geriatrics
The Ellen Parker Memorial Award was established in 1993 to honor the memory of Ellen Parker, a longtime devoted member of the Department. Ms. Parker played a major role in the development of editorial projects, grant proposals, and fund raising for geriatrics. This award recognizes the service contributions of a graduating medical student to his/her community whether local, national, or international. The selection for this award is based on demonstration, through their volunteer and/or vocational endeavors, an exemplary sense of caring, initiative, and ingenuity towards improvement of the quality of life of older adults in disadvantaged communities. Past Awardees include Dr. Tanya Page (2002), Dr. Andrew Letizia (2003), Dr. Martin C. Evers (2004) and Drs. Seth Resnick and Kathryn Callahan (tie-2005).
The Milton C. Engel, M.D. Prize in Geriatric Medicine
This annual award is given to a graduating student who has chosen to specialize in the field of Geriatric Medicine or in a specialty that deals with older adults. This prize was made possible through an early, significant gift from David D. and Betty Cooper Wallerstein as well as through many other gifts from Dr. Engel’s grateful patients, friends, colleagues and family. Mr. and Mrs. Wallerstein’s gift especially honors the dedicated and excellent care Dr. Engel provided for their parents, Adele and Joseph Cooper and Victoria and Adolph Wallerstein. Previous awardees of The Milton C. Engel, MD Prize in Geriatric Medicine include Dr. Lawrence ‘Jay’ Ufford (2002), Dr. Amanda Lucero (2003), Dr. David Aaronson (2004) and Dr. Benjamin Kornitzer (2005).
