Special Programs and Honors

Certificate Program in Bioethics

Through a competitive selection, second-year fellows may travel to NYU to participate in a Certificate in Bioethics and Medical Humanities, jointly run by Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Division of Nursing at NYU. This program is designed to educate health care, law, and business professionals in the essential principles and practical clinical applications of bioethics. The curriculum introduces the foundations of moral theory, key principles of bioethical and legal analysis, major judicial opinions, and methods of ethical reasoning. The program meets once a week during the fall and spring semesters.

Hartford Geriatrics Center of Excellence

In 1998, the Department was designated a Center of Excellence (CoE) in Geriatrics by the John A. Hartford Foundation. This award gives us the ability to offer additional specialized training to select third-year fellows to increase their opportunities of having a successful academic career. This award also helps physicians, fellows, and junior faculty alike to overcome obstacles and obtain the necessary skills for becoming more competent geriatric educators and successful academic leaders. Fellowship Honors

Chief Fellow: Selected by faculty late in the first year, the chief fellow fulfills a variety of leadership duties and administrative tasks during his/her second year. This is considered a leadership award and is associated with additional salary compensation.

Research Award: The research award recognizes excellence in Geriatric Medicine, based on execution, and the presentation of the fellow’s research project to the Department of academic faculty in the spring of the second year.
