Research in Palliative Care

The research program of the Hertzberg Palliative Care Institute is dedicated to advancing the science of palliative medicine by rigorously exploring key issues in palliative medicine and developing new knowledge in this field; providing research infrastructure and mentoring for junior faculty; and providing infrastructure for clinical, financial, and educational outcome evaluation. Areas of active investigation by the division include: quality improvement in palliative care, pain and symptom management in hospitalized patients and in the cognitively impaired, disparities in access to palliative care among different ethnic groups, and evaluation of palliative care delivery models outside of the hospital.

The Hertzberg Palliative Care faculty and their colleagues are active participants in an array of research efforts that will contribute to advances in the theory and practice of palliative care.
