Overview
The new Medical Center Website, www.mountsinai.org, is now launched; however, not all content has been migrated to the new design and structure. As with any large Website like Mount Sinai's it will take many months to complete this process.
In the meantime, content for the Medical Center is either fully migrated, for example the Medical Scientist Training Program, or it is considered non-migrated content, for example Center for Multicultural and Community Affairs, which is wholly non-migrated, or General Internal Medicine Residency program, which is partially migrated and includes a link to the non-migrated content under Find Out More.
Another way to determine whether content is considered fully migrated or non-migrated is by looking at the Web address after the page is loaded in the Web browser. Pages that are fully migrated will start with www.mountsinai.org. Pages that are non-migrated will start with www.mssm.edu.
When submitting requests for either fully migrated or non-migrated content, please follow the instructions for Request Types and Content Types based on your particular needs.
Request Types
First, determine the request type.
- New Site
New sites are those who have no existing presence on the Medical Center site, www.mountsinai.org, or the School site, www.mssm.edu, as non-migrated content. To read more about how to submit content to develop a new site, refer to the section New Sites and New Content.
- New Content
New content is content that is to be added to an existing site on the Medical Center site, www.mountsinai.org, or the School site, www.mssm.edu, as non-migrated content. An example would be a new program or center within a Department or Division site. The Web Office needs to know what site this new content will be linked from, and refer to New Sites and New Content on how to submit your content to us.
- Existing Content
Updates to existing content on the Medical Center site, www.mountsinai.org, or the School site, www.mssm.edu, as non-migrated content should follow either the Line-by-Line Method or Tracked Changes Method, refer to the section Existing Content for more information. In short, the Web Office needs to know the Web address for every page that is to be changed, and specifically the text that needs to be changed or removed.
- Application Development
Application Development is a request that may need user interaction and data collection, for example surveys, online payment, or other interfaces using forms to submit date to a database or to send via an e-mail. These requests require additional programming and database development. Please send your request to weboffice@mssm.edu. In the e-mail subject line please include Application Development: followed by department or program name, and then purpose of request. (For example, Application Development: Alumni Office: Alumni Survey.) Please avoid using simply "Website update" or "Web page update" as the subject line. In the body describe your requirements and goals for the project.
- Message Board / Wiki
Please send your request to weboffice@mssm.edu. In the e-mail subject line please include Message Board or Wiki: followed by department or program name, and then purpose of request. (For example, Message Board: MDA/ALS Program: Educational/Support Group.) Please avoid using simply "Website update" or "Web page update" as the subject line. In the body describe your requirements and goals for the message board or wiki.
Content Types
Second, determine the content type.
- Faculty / Physician Profile Pages
All Faculty/Physician Profile Pages are fully migrated. All faculty with active appointments at the School of Medicine can have their contact and curriculum vitae information represented on faculty profile pages on the Medical Center site, www.mountsinai.org. In addition, for those physicians with active appointments in the Hospital patient contact information, office hours, insurance, and other clinical related information can also be included. We need to know your full name and what information is to be added or changed on your profile. Refer to the section Faculty Profile Pages for more details and where to submit information.
- Medical Event / Calendar
Medical Events for posting on the Medical Center Events Calendar require event details as described in the section Medical Event / Calendar. Calendars and call schedules that are downloadable within a Department, Division, Program, or Laboratory site require the Web address and the new document that has to be converted. Refer to the section Medical Event / Calendar for more information.
- Educational Entity (Residencies, Fellowships, Postdoctoral Programs)
Educational Entities include residencies, fellowships, and postdoctoral programs. Educational Entities are associated with one or more departments or divisions. See the listing of existing Educational Entities for examples. To-date most Educational Entities are partially migrated and therefore have some content that is fully migrated and some that is non-migrated. Refer to the section Educational Entity for more information.
- Degree Program
Degree Programs are those programs where a degree is conferred upon completion of the program or which may lead to admission into a degree granting program, for example the M.D. or Humanities and Medicine programs. See a listing of Degree Granting Programs. To-date all Degree Granting Programs are fully migrated. Refer to the section Degree Programs for more information.
- Research Entity (Laboratories, Centers, Program)
Research Entities include laboratories, programs, and some centers. Research Entities are associated with one or more departments and divisions. See the listing of existing Research Entities for examples. Refer to the section Research Entity for more information.
- Department
Departments include academic departments where faculty rank is appointed. See the listing of Departments for examples. To-date most Departments are partially migrated and therefore have some content that is fully migrated and some that is non-migrated. Refer to the section Department for more information.
- Patient Care (Service Areas and Services)
Much of the Patient Care content is divided into Service Areas and Services. Service Areas represent areas of clinical focus, for example Heart or Children. See the listing of Service Areas for other examples. Services represent specific programs, clinics, and centers providing patient care at Mount Sinai, for example Breast Imaging Services. See the listing of existing Services under the tab Treatments and Services for other examples. Refer to the section Patient Care for more information.
- Native File Upload
Native file uploads are updates to documents available for download on the Website. These files are typically Adobe Acrobat (PDF), Microsoft Word (DOC, RTF), or Microsoft PowerPoint (PPS, PPT) formats. Send us the source file as an e-mail attachment (if applicable, let us know if it needs to be converted to PDF), and the Web address where you would like the file included or where it is currently included if this is a revision. It is recommended that you keep a copy of your source file, since edits to the source file can be made easily without affecting the layout and appearance of the final version. Refer to the section Other Content for more information.
- Other Content
For content outside the scope of the content types described above please refer to the section Other Content for more information.
