The Gustave L. and Janet W. Levy Library

Access Electronic Journals:

Access the Levy Library's collection of licensed E-Journals from the Library's E-Journals button. To access e-journals from off-campus locations, you must login with your MSSM username and password. Off-campus login instructions are here.

Guide to Using E-Journals:

1. Search for an e-journal:

Type the journal title in the search box and click Search.

Example Screen:

Or, Search for an Article:

Connect directly to a full text article, if you know its PubMed ID (PMID) number.

The PMID number is located at the bottom of every PubMed citation.

Your PMID search will then open Article Linker to give you full text, print and Interlibrary loan options for the article.

2. If you Searched for a Journal Title:

Select a Journal Provider.

The results of your title search will appear, including the dates of coverage for each journal access point (or source).

Journals will often have more than one provider. You select the link you would like to access.

Example Screen:

3. Open Full Text.

Retrieve the full text by navigating to the volume, issue and page numbers of the article you need.

Each publisher's interface and path to full text will be slightly different. One example is at the left.

A PDF format is a reprint version of a paper.

Example Screens:

4. Journal Specific Passwords: A very small number of the library's licensed journals require Mount Sinai users to enter a journal-specific username and password to gain access to full-text. The journal's username and password will be provided to you on a Levy Library webpage before you enter the journal's homepage. A list of journals requiring passwords is here. If you are off-campus you must login to the library with your MSSM username and password in addition to entering the journal's username and password.

5. Please Note - All articles are NOT online (yet):

  • Articles published before 1995 are not usually available online...at least not yet.
  • Keep in mind that even recently published "core" titles may not be available online. The library houses over 1,400 print subscriptions, including 300 current (2005-2006) print journal subscriptions that are not available online.
  • To find out if the library subscribes to the print version of a journal, search the Library's Online Catalog.
