Renew a Book Online:

Review your library account and renew your library materials online using the My Account feature in the online catalog.

A book that has been checked out of the library may be renewed twice unless another person has requested that a Hold be placed on it.

If you have any problems renewing materials online, or if you would like to renew your books by phone, please contact the Circulation Desk at 241-7791 (x47791).

Go to the Library Catalog and click on My Account, located in the gray bar across the top.

Then click either Review My Account or Renew My Materials.

Type in either your library barcode number OR your life number (both found on the back of your MSSM ID).

Then click the List Charged Items button.

To renew some of the items that are checked out to you, click in the box(es) to the left of the title(s). Or, click Renew All to select everything.

Then click the Renew Selected Items button at the bottom of the page.

After you click on the Renew Selected Items button,

  • You will see a confirmation screen showing the new due date,
  • OR, you will get a message saying that the item cannot be renewed. A book that has been checked out of the library may be renewed twice unless another person has requested that a Hold be placed on it.
Place a Hold on an Item:

You may place a hold on any item that has been checked out of the library except for reserve items.

Locate the record in the Library Catalog and click on the Details button.

If the item is currently checked out, you will be able to place a hold on it. Click on Place Hold.

Enter your library barcode or your life number.

Enter the optional expiration date if you will no longer need the item after a certain time.

Click the Place Hold button.

After you click on Place Hold, you will see a verification message. Click OK to return to the catalog record.

We will notify you by email or phone when the item is available for you to pick up.

  • Items that you have placed on hold are kept for pick up for one week at the Circulation Desk.
  • To check the status of your hold or to cancel it, click on My Account.
