Loansome Doc is a document ordering feature of MEDLINE via PubMed or the NLM Gateway. While reviewing citations from your search, you tag the articles you wish to order. Information identifying you and the desired articles is then uploaded to the National Library of Medicine (NLM), which forwards the information to your ordering library.
The NLM develops and makes available the searching interfaces with the Loansome Doc enhancement. NLM, however, is not the "ordering library" for Loansome Doc services. To use Loansome Doc, you must first make arrangements with a library (usually a local health sciences library) for provision of services.
Registering
The Levy Library is happy to receive Loansome Doc requests from Mount Sinai faculty, staff, students and members of the Mount Sinai Alumni. To make arrangements, please contact the Interlibrary Loan Department by email at ill-e-delivery@mssm.edu or by phone at (212) 241-3862. You can then register for Loansome Doc using the online registration available at Loansome Doc. Once you have registered, you are ready to order documents.
Loansome Doc at the Levy Library
We will read your request and, if we can, we will copy the articles and send them to you. If we do not have an article in our collection, we will request it from another library using our interlibrary loan system.
Delivery Methods
The Library delivers articles to affiliated users by email, fax or mail (via the U.S.P.S). Articles can also be picked up in person at the Library.
Charges
- Current Mount Sinai faculty, students and staff are charged $5.00 per request if the article is in the Levy Library collection; otherwise, it is free.
- Members of The Mount Sinai Alumni are charged $5.00 per request.
Billing
You will be billed each month.
Speed of Delivery
- If an item requested is in our collection, we will copy the article within one full working day.
- If an item is not in our collection, we will request it from another library using our interlibrary loan system. The average time for filling requests is four to five days.
