6. Author Search

Finding an author's publications is one of the most common reasons for using PubMed. There are several ways to do this.
  1. Type directly into the search box: Enter the last name, a space, then first and middle initial (if known), with no punctuation - e.g. smith bj. As long as you know the first initial, PubMed will automatically recognize that you are searching for an author.
  2. Full Author Names may be used, but only for citations published in 2002 or later, and only when the journal includes the full name in the article - e.g. brian j smith.
  3. Use the Advanced Search screen to Search by Author. As you type, PubMed will suggest author names. You can also use the drop-down menus to add more authors.
Tip: Remember to Remove any activated Limits if you use the links on this page for the author name searches.
