3b. Using the Search Details

Note: It is a good idea to check the Search Details when you start a new search to ensure that PubMed has translated your search appropriately, especially if you are using abbreviations.

Why this matters: It may seem picky at first, but if your search does not map appropriately, your results will be off-target or incomplete, and you will miss important articles. Example: A search for myocardial infarction using its common abbreviation MI does not map correctly, giving you a less desirable search.

How to Fix This: Check the Details page, and if you do not see a MeSH term, spell out the abbreviation or use another synonym until your search maps to the term you need. Example.
