8. Advanced Search: Using Limits
Limits are a type of filter used to retrieve more relevant search results. PubMed's Advanced Search screen allows you to limit your search with helpful options such as Type of Article (ex., Review article, Randomized Controlled Trial), Language, Human or Animal study, Ages and Gender.
Use Limits: Type heart attack AND ekg (or heart attack
ekg) in the query box and click Search. You will retrieve over 26,800 results — too many to be useful.
Click the link to Advanced Search, located above the query box. Example
Go to the section labeled Limit by Topics, Languages and Journal Groups. Use the check boxes to select the following Limits: Languages- English; Type of Article- Meta-Analysis; Ages- Middle Aged, 45-64 years. Then, click Search.
