Here's a Quick Summary of "Searching":
- When you enter a word in the query box, PubMed will search for that word and its synonyms in all the fields (author, abstract, title, etc.) used to describe an article.
- Check the Search Details to make sure that PubMed interpreted your query properly. Remember to check whether Limits from previous searches are still in effect!
- Use AND, OR, NOT and/or parentheses to create longer search statements.
- Use the Advanced Search screen to place Limits on your search (study type, language, age group, etc).
- Search by author using the format smith bj. Or, use the Advanced Search screen to search by author (and get suggestions as you type).
- Type partial citations into the PubMed search box, or use the Single Citation Matcher to locate specific citations.
- Use the Advanced Search screen to search in specific fields to find authors and citations, and to set precise parameters on your search.
