Overview

The Department is responsible for teaching scholars at every level of medicine, including medical students in each year of schooling, interns, residents, fellows, and practicing physicians. In addition, members of the Department also participate in the education of Ph.D. and M.D./Ph.D. students and postdoctoral fellows who study basic mechanisms of disease.

At the Mount Sinai campus the Department sponsors residencies in Internal Medicine (total 123 residents) and Internal Medicine/Pediatrics (total 16 residents). In addition, there are fellowships in Cardiology (31 fellows), Clinical Immunology (3 fellows), Endocrinology (8 fellows), Gastroenterology (12 fellows), General Internal Medicine (3 fellows), Hematology and Medical Oncology (12 fellows), Infectious Diseases (6 fellows), Liver (4 fellows), Pulmonary (17 fellows), Nephrology (14 fellows), and Rheumatology (2 fellows).
