Mount Sinai and the New York Metropolitan Area

The Mount Sinai Hospital, a 1,171-bed teaching hospital at Fifth Avenue/Madison Avenue, 98th to 102nd Street in Manhattan, staffed by over 1,800 physicians, provides acute and tertiary inpatient care, short-term rehabilitation services and outpatient primary and specialty medical services at its Manhattan campus and in partnership with community based organizations. It is the main teaching hospital of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. The Mount Sinai Hospital is located in East Harlem, a predominantly low income community whose population is primarily of Hispanic and African American origin while its neighboring community to the South, the Upper East Side, is one of the nation's most affluent. These communities provide a broad mix of cultural, socioeconomic and ethnic diversity, which makes the delivery of health services and educational opportunities at Mount Sinai both unique and challenging.
