Residency Programs in Internal Medicine

Multicultural Affairs

The Mount Sinai Medical Center is located on the border of East Harlem, a community that has historically drawn new immigrants, thereby creating a highly diverse population. The majority of East Harlem residents today belong to ethnic or racial groups that have traditionally been underrepresented in medicine.

Providing exceptional care to this community requires physicians and staff who reflect its diversity. Ensuring such diversity in the next generation of physician leaders is one of the core principles that shapes the Internal Medicine Residency Program, beginning with recruitment and continuing throughout the curriculum.
